Journey With Me: Introducing the Studio Diaries.
Hello and Greetings!
Welcome to the Studio Songhai Blog, aka Studio Diaries! If this is your first time here, you are very welcome.
This blog (and its soon-to-be-accompanying podcast) documents my journey as an emerging visual artist. As I do so, I want to encourage you and other artists to step courageously into their dreams.
But the truth is, this channel is about me overcoming the fear of being seen- which I will discuss in an upcoming video.
In this post, I want to introduce myself and explain the blog's purpose.
My name is Theodora Songhai, and I am a visual artist based in the UK. I worked as a professional actor for ten years before stepping away from it in 2019. Since then, I have gone back to studying full-time. While I was studying, I returned to collage and analogue photography, which is my main focus.
I’m starting from scratch. I mean, scratch.
I don’t have a studio. I don’t even have a desk. All I have is space on my kitchen counter in my studio flat and a lot of determination.
I aspire to have a dedicated space where I can make art, surrounded by plants and an aromatherapeutic diffuser (LOL). Until then, we will do what we’ve got to do. Lack of space or any other obstacle or challenge (although real and valid) is not a reason not to begin.
So we begin.
These blog posts will include stories about my artist journey, lessons I’ve learned that continue to serve me, encouragements and affirmations, and photos documenting my process.
My musings will also be places where I share my favourite books on art that are helping me on my artist journey and my favourite artists who have inspired and continue to inspire me. These artists span visual art, performance, music, dance, and literature.
I will also be embarking on a few artist challenges, such as The Artist Way (again!), and will document this process to stay accountable and invite you all to join me.
I will also be relaunching my podcast, ‘On Being an Artist.’ More on that soon!
Yes, this is about documenting my journey (including the struggles), but I want to stir and stoke that fire within you, which is your call to more and also show you the other side of your comfort zone and your fear.
It’s not because I’ve got it all figured out and together, but because I am showing you it is possible in my own small and imperfect way.
It is possible to show up for your dreams - in fact, it is important that you do.
Don’t wait. The truth is, there will never be a perfect time.
There will never be a moment when everything aligns perfectly
If any of this resonates with you, subscribe to the newsletter so you can stay up-to-date on all the news from the Studio. If you think this will resonate with someone you know, share it with them.
So, until we gather again, move towards your dream - one step at a time - no matter how small.
